Nursing is an integral part of the hospitality sector. As the healthcare sector is increasing at a fast pace, the demand for healthcare professional is rising too. Nursing is commonly pursued by the science and biology students but is only known to few that nursing courses can now also be done by arts and commerce students after 12th.
The 12th arts and commerce students can now pursue nursing courses through two diploma certificate courses of nursing. They are:
- Auxiliary Nursing and Midwifery (ANM)
- General nursing and midwifery (GNM)
There are institutes in India approved by the Indian Nursing Council that allow arts and commerce stream students to pursue their nursing dreams through these two courses.
Following the above two diploma courses will provide a career path that can make you fulfill your dreams by providing the bachelor degree in nursing.
General nursery and midwifery are a 3.5 years long program in which 3 years is dedicated to academics and 6 months is for an internship. After successfully completing this course, the candidate is eligible to get himself registered as a nurse or midwife in the state nurse registration council. After getting registered, one can pursue a B.Sc nursing course to get a bachelor degree in nursing. This bachelor course is two years long. After completing this post-graduation course, one can choose to go for post-graduation courses to get better job opportunities:
- M.Sc in nursing
- M. Phil nursing
- PhD
- PG diploma or PG certificate in nursing
These courses will enable specialization in nursing and will provide you a better career path. After completing this course, you can expect to be a staff nurse, home nurse, health visitor, and community health worker.
Auxiliary Nursing and Midwifery is a 2-year long nursing program that aims at making students capable of nursing in rural areas. However, anyone with an ANM degree isn’t essentially be working in the rural area, they can work in urban areas too. This course is dedicated towards the treatment of women, children and old people. The 1.5 years are dedicated to academics and 6 months are allowed for an internship.
To stand better in front of job opportunities, ANM may not be enough and you have to pursue a GNM course. After completing this course, you can pursue your bachelor degree in B.Sc nursing which is a 2-year long course.
The starting salary you can expect from a nursing will be around 10000 to 15000 per month which can be increased gradually after gaining valuable experience.
